Amen Sama But Roma

I am publishing this video to honor a Romani with a big heart - YouTuber shahnee66. Readher words of kindness and encouragement to a young singer at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1vczl...

Following text is from: http://www.romani.org/

Former Indian Prime Minister Indira Ghandi summarized the state of the Romani people very nicely in her opening speech at the International Romani Festival in Chandigarh, India on October 28, 1983. It is paraphrased below (by Milena Hubschmannova & Jaroslav Jurasek), and we have also made the full text of her address available. (see: http://www.romani.org/rigadr.html)

"There are some 15 million Roms dispersed across the world. Their history is one of suffering and misery, but it is also one of the victories of human spirit over the blows of fate. Today the Roms revive their culture and are looking for their identity. On the other hand, they integrate into the societies in which they live. If they are understood by their fellow citizens in their new homelands, their culture will enrich the society's atmosphere with the color and charm of spontaneity."

Romani Medley

Many people on youtube spend their time bashing the gypsies and I hate people hating others just because they belong to an ethnic group or race.
This is a photo gallery of some pictures I could find on internet (I don't know so much about gypsies- or Roma people, as they call themselves) of some well known gypsies and stuff; with excellent music performed by them. Gypsies have contributed significantly to the musical development of every nation they passed through: they were the main creators of the flamenco genre in Spain, they are the main band leaders in the Balkans and Eastern Europe (to the point that most of the Balkan folk is actually gypsy); actually in this area they mix Russian-like and Arabic-like tunes, baring a noticeable similarity with Jewish music. They are also conspicuous musicians in the Middle East, Western Europe and the American Continent; in Italy you'll find many songs dedicated or possibly created by gypsies.

There must be a reason why gypsies haven't become great contributors to the sciences and arts as the Jews (another people in diaspora). I think it must be because the Roma chose a nomadic life.

In any case they're among the best musicians in the world, in the video you'll hear:

-Taraf of Haiducs

-Gelem gelem/Djelem djelem, Romani National Anthem-(lyrics by Jarko Jovanovic on a folk melody) Rromano Dives

-Ira Cigana- Boban Markovic (I wanted to put Ederlezi Avela by his orchestra but something went wrong with the computer)

-Como tu- Gypsy kings

-Bubamara- Saban Bajramovic

-Ederlezi- (folk from the Balkans) Goran Bregovic

Ederlezi
