To some the word "Collectables" conjures many connotations but to the Romany Gypsy the word has a defined meaning.
It is not just the collecting of anything, but rather of things which are very defined and are often passed down the family line. They can define the history and the culture of our family, tribe and race and are an exhibiton of not only value and worth, but also of the esteem and regard with which we regard ourselves amongst others.
Traditionally, "Collectables" are china or crystal glass, but modern day has made them as diverse as they are difined. Today they range from ornaments to metalware and often reflect the owner by that means.
On the verge of a young woman's marriage many will ask her what she is "collecting", which often helps begin her own "Collection", and unlike the "bottom drawer" of the non-Romany, "Collectables" are not the general 'practical' gifts, assocaited with marriage, such as sheets, pots or pans etc.
Below you will see various member "Collectables", (kindly contributed ), and if you have any "Collections" you would like shown, please contact us via our contact page.
